…about Livy’s sweet friend fighting cancer

The NICU has brought many special people into our lives. One that we connected with early on was a family who had been in the NICU with their daughter right before us. The mom, Brooke, and I, both had different friends that knew each other. When Brooke’s friend let her know that a family connected to one of her friends was in the NICU, she reached out to her daughter’s primary nurses to check-in with us. Pretty quickly after that, those two nurses became Olivia’s primaries as well. And Brooke became an important resource for all things NICU, as well as a sanity check, and a prayer warrior.

Even with being out of the NICU, we still check-in with each other. Both of our girls (Maddix & Liv) are still receiving various therapies and follow ups with specialists. We’ve celebrated birthdays and even gotten out on the lake with our families and one of our primary nurses, Courtney and her husband, Chris.

Sadly, in April the unthinkable happened. Maddix was diagnosed with liver cancer. Maddix started receiving treatment immediately. But it has been far from easy. With each treatment round, Maddix has been hospitalized for multiple days. It has been so hard to have an active two year old stuck in a hospital room. Throughout this ordeal they have been praying that Maddix’s temperature stays normal, her labs come back good, she stays hydrated and eats. This is something that no child or parent should have to go through.

Being in the hospital creates many stresses and one of those is a financial burden. A GoFundMe has been set up to help with:

  • Medical treatments and hospital bills
  • Travel to and from appointments
  • Medications and injections
  • Daily living expenses for the family during treatment

So, if you find yourself looking for a way to support a special family through a difficult time, donating to Jeff, Brooke, and Maddix would be your answer. If you can’t give financially, prayers would be amazing. When you visit their GoFundMe page, you can see how much they are leaning on their faith.

I know many of you have followed the blog to get updates on Olivia, and recently there have been a couple of blogs about others in our lives. So we appreciate you taking the time to read and support others that are dear to us in whatever way you can.

Here are a couple of pics of Olivia and Maddix:

Until next time…
