WOW! I knew it had been awhile since I blogged and gave an update but I didn’t know I hadn’t posted since then end of February and now we are at the end of April.
I wanted to share the story of some people who have become very dear to us.
When we moved to West Park right before Olivia was born we began to check out the local eateries that were within walking distance to us. We love MoJoe’s and Kitchen747. But another place has made it feel like our own little “Cheers.” Masa Masa is an amazing little taco joint. If you have come to visit us, it is highly likely that we have taken you there or ordered from there. On top of the food being amazing (and proceeds from each purchase of a taco goes to a different charity), the owners and employees bring us so much joy. The owners, Emily and Ashlie are literally some of the best people we have ever met. They learned our names, they learned about Olivia, and cheered her on while she was in the hospital. Whenever we stopped in they always wanted an update. They are fellow Disney lovers and even got Livy a sweet Mickey blanket with her name embroidered on it. It is a blanket that never leaves her crib.
Before we met them, back in 2022, Ashlie was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She had a long difficult battle, but went into remission October of 2023. But on March 21st the family learned that she had relapsed with AML. Ashlie is getting treatment but has already hit some serious road bumps. Because of the diagnosis she has had other health issues arise to where her treatment is now all inpatient. Emily and Ashlie also have two kids, which I can’t even imagine how hard this is on them as well.
Em and Ash have obviously had to step away from the business while all this is going on and the amazing Annie has taken the reigns and is rocking it. But with that being said, Jeremy and I know firsthand how hard it is when you have a family member who is admitted in the hospital. It is hard to plan meals, pay bills, split your time, and add parenting two amazing kids through it all. A GoFundMe has been set up to help with the financial burden of treatment costs, so they can focus on what matters most: Ashlie’s health and their family’s well-being. If this story has touched you or you have ever been to Masa Masa and met Ashlie or Emily I encourage you to think about donating. I know money is really tight for many right now, but every little bit counts. If money is not an option, prayers and good vibes definitely appreciated. Any and all support is needed at this time.

PS An Olivia update is coming this week I promise ❤
