Alright everyone…talk about an emotional episode. Glad that is over. I really did like this challenge. It is a great opportunity for a designer to be vulnerable and create something that is totally them and their own. Something that has never been made or used. Of course some of the designers did better than others.
The one person that I have to of course talk about is Mondo. What amount of weight he has carried with him for 10 years. Having a disease is hard enough. This is something you would want/need support to help you get through it, but to do it on your own, that’s so hard. I am so glad this show was able to give him that freedom; that he was able to finally share. I hope and pray that his family was understanding and supportive. Wish I could give him a big hug!
This episode made me cry twice! Who am I? I am not a crier, but I kid you not, in the last few months I cry at so many things. What is going on with my hormones?! I do not like it. I think what really got to me this episode was when most of the designers go to see their moms. That hits close to home right now because my mom is in the hospital. She had surgery on Tuesday and I wasn’t able to be there. And that has been hard for me; not being there there for it and not able to help out with her recovery.
Even Tim got emotional in this episode when he was in the workroom with everyone and realized it was down to the final 7. Which is when the show was ruined for me.
While I’m watching the show I like to text my good friend Steve. He is the only person I know who watches it. He thought I had already come to the end of the episode and mentioned who got kicked off. Thanks a lot Steve. Just kidding. I’m not that upset about it. Only if it was someone I would have been shocked about, but Valerie has been in the bottom the last 4 weeks, so I wasn’t too surprised.
Let’s move onto the looks:
April: Cute. Really liked her textile. But like I said last week, I want to see her do something other than black…PLEASE! You can still be edgy with color!
Andy: BORING. Don’t know what else to say about it.
Mondo: Loved the fabric he created. Making it into a pant was a little too bold for me. I felt like the pants were very 70’s. But all together it was a great look. He is great at pairing prints and I love those little coats he makes with the print inside!
Valerie: I did not like it. The judges felt like it reminded them of one of the outfit she did earlier, but it actually reminded me of the same challenge, but of the dress/designer that ended up getting kicked off that challenge. She did not use her personal textile well. I liked Valerie in the beginning, but she definitely lost her touch.
Michael C.: I liked his design, although it was dark. I agree with Heidi on the matchiness (I like to create my own words). But I do wish it had more color.
Christopher: I felt like his pants were 70’s, similar to Mondo’s, but I really liked the shirt. This California girl liked it.
Mondo won again! He got a TURKEY! Three in a row! Congrats! He deserved it. He had the best look. But I will say, Valerie’s goodbye was the best of the season. In our youth group when we give out compliments like that we call it “giving out roses.” I thought it was very special to see Valerie do this for all the designers…this was the second time I cried. It made me wonder if this happens every time someone gets kicked off or if Valerie is the only one to do it. I hope it is the latter, because it makes it that more special.
Alright…I’m off to see Tyrone Wells in concert. Have a great weekend everyone! Until next time…PEACE OUT!
