…with New Moon

I held off on posting anything Twilight related, but the time has come now. This has been siting on the cooker for a while as the movie has been out for over 2 weeks.

As a disclaimer: if you don’t like Twilight then don’t read this post. I am really not in the mood to hear about how stupid you may think it is. I respect your opinion and everyone has their personal likes and dislikes and this just happens to be on of my likes 🙂

I will confess that I have seen the movie three times. I don’t think that is as bad as many. The day it came out, I heard on the radio that one girl had gone 5 times already. Now that is a little obsessive and I am wondering how she paid for all of that. I really don’t consider myself one of those crazy obsessed people, but I will say that I am a fan. I do follow-up to what the latest news is (I’m chomping at the bit waiting to hear what they are going to do about Breaking Dawn). I have read the series 2 1/2 times and I do listen to a podcast (quick shout out to Twilight Source‘s Imprint podcast -love you guys!).

Quick break down on midnight showing: We got there at 6pm. Why? Because girls are psycho and I didn’t want to sit in the front row, that would have sucked. Some girls had been there since 3pm. When we got into the theater we had twilight mom’s sitting next to us doing trivia. When all of a sudden we see them whip out a bottle of rum! SO FUNNY! They really wanted to have a good time that night. First time seeing the movie I didn’t know what to think. Some fan girls ruined parts for me because they screamed or would laugh at parts that weren’t suppose to be funny. So needless to say after my first viewing I thought it was good, but  I was not raving about it.

Round 2: We went back the next week to watch it on Tuesday night. This time around I loved it! And a perk…the movie froze in the middle and it took them awhile to get it back up and running (good thing this was not my first time seeing it or I may have been a little more upset). We got a free ticket at the end (I used it to go see Blindside-loved it! Go see it!).

Round 3: Saw it at the Alamo Drafthouse and came out feeling very content.

Now the details. Things I didn’t like first, so I can end on a good note.

Wolf pack: I really did want to like them. But I felt like a lot of their performances fell a little flat and I’m hoping they will be better in Eclipse because it won’t be their first go around.

Cheesy lines: There are lines in the book that I cringe at sometimes, and if I cringe at them on paper then they are going translate even worse on film. I wish some of those would have been taken out. A lot of those lines were from Jacob, so I feel like some may see that as Taylor not acting well, but I don’t think anyone could have made those lines sound good.

I think those are the main two. Now for everything else that I loved.

Acting: I think everyone was much more comfortable with their characters and it definitely showed. Especially for Kristen Stewart even though I have always been a fan of her work.

Humans: I love Mike, Eric, Jessica, Angela and Charlie. The scenes that they were all in were some of my favorites. They were able to add the subtle comic relief that is needed in such an emotional movie and definitely stole those scenes.

Color: Loved not having the blue tint and having the warmer tint. It really was beautiful cinematography.

Soundtrack/Score: The music was so great and really emphasized the feeling/emotion in certain scenes.  Even if you don’t like New Moon/Twilight, but love indie music, you should get this album. You will love it.

Sticking to the book: Reading what many critics have written, it seems that many of them have not read the books. And that makes a little bit of a difference. They say that the movie is too long and that there is not enough action or plot. New Moon was made more for the fans than the critics and Chris Weitz has spoken about that. If they would have changed the movie from what the book says then the millions of people who pay to go see it over and over again probably wouldn’t because they would be disappointed that the story was changed. So kudos to Melissa Rosenberg and Weitz for sticking to the book.

Volturi: They were all amazing! Michael Sheen as Aro was my favorite. He personified that role so well. Definitely looking forward to seeing him reprise his role in the future.

Months: In the book, after Edward leaves, Bella goes into a deep depression. To illustrate this Stephenie Meyer chose to leave blank pages with the month that had passed on it. It really hits a major chord when reading it. In the movie I loved how they showcased this. They have Bella sitting in a chair in her room looking out her window. They did a panoramic shot around her and every time the camera would pass the window it would show a different season/month. I thought it was very creative and well done.

At the end of the day I really enjoyed the movie. And don’t be surprised if I see it again in theaters. I have a dollar theater 5 min. from my apt., so when it hits there-no stopping me, haha.

I’m off, but until next time…PEACE OUT!
