Mentorship has been an important aspect of my life for over a decade, especially with young women. And I can probably trace the beginning of my passion back to the 4th grade. I remember being a buddy to a kindergarten student. I loved visiting them, helping them with a project, and answering their many questions. The older I got, the way I mentored changed. It movedĀ from helping younger students with schoolwork, to challenging them in their faith and watching them grow in their relationship with Christ.
Growing up is hard to do and it’s not getting any easier. I am so thankful for the women I had in my life, when I was young that poured their wisdom into me. They encouraged me not only in my spiritual life, but also in all aspects of my life.
Over the years, I have had the chance to attend a few women’s conferences where I was able to grow and be challenged by other women. This is special because it is so easy to cut each other down or compete with one another, but the conferences became a safe place where we could relate and build each other up.
As a leader I had the opportunity to take young women to conferences similar to the ones I have gone to. I saw these girls encouraged and lifted up in ways that a summer camp or Mexico trip couldn’t do.
And now, I want to be the one to create that space for them. A place where young women can spend an evening, or two, hearing about how beautiful they are, inside and out. That they are worth more than the negative names they hear in their mind or from the people around them. That they can make a difference, not only in their communities, but the world. And that God loves them.
YIKES! BIG DREAM! And now it’s out there in the wild. A few close people have heard about my dream already, but I felt like it was time to share it with the masses. It is time to spread the word and recruit those who buy into the dream as much as I do. I know this idea will never make it out of my head without the help of some amazing people.
I am in the super early stages. The more I dig in, the more I realize what there is to do. I am excited to learn and slowly see this dream become a reality.
If you are interested in jumping into this crazy adventure with me, please reach out. You can leave a comment here, call me, text me, email me, FB me, or tweet me. Heck you can even Snapchat me.
I’m hoping to have a brainstorm meeting in the near future. I want to nail down a name soon, so I can begin the trademark process, which seems like such a fun time (insert sarcastic tone).
I post on my blog updates on how everything is going…or not going. So, be on the lookout for posts to come up a little more frequently than the once a year I have been doing lately. SMH.
Thank you for caring about me enough to read my post and for being some of my best cheerleaders.
Until next time…PEACE OUT!
