…where it’s the last day of SXSW 09 for me

OK…so the last day with my friends in town was a lot of fun. I tried to fit in as much as I could in this last day. We woke up in time of course to get ready and go to lunch…mornings do not exist during sxsw. I took them all to Rudy’s for some good BBQ that is fairly cheap. Side note: if you go to Rudy’s, these are the things you must try-extra moist brisket, ribs, and the cream corn. Now I know what many of you are thinking. Cream corn is nasty. And that’s what I thought as well, before I tired this stuff. It is soooo good! So you will try it if we go. I can guarantee that.

After Rudy’s we headed to downtown, but before we got there we stopped at the beautiful Mt. Bonnell.

100_1541Ash started scaring me a little because she was just standing on the edge. I kept playing horrible things in my head. I felt much better when she was back on the other side of the rope.

After this nice little stop we headed to go see Third Eye Blind. We had to wait in line for awhile, but we got in and it was a good time. They were different, but it was fun when the sang their old stuff. After that we headed to get some Mongolian BBQ. It was pretty good. Half us liked it. But in the beginning, I was not too happy. I started making my bowl, full of yummy veggies, I never get meat, don’t really know why, just never have. When I got down to the noodles, there were none left. So I asked the worker behind if there were any more noodles. Cause of course I can’t have mongo with no noodles. He then answered, “No.” So I started to panic. Looking at my friends. How could they have no noodles left, it was early in the evening and sxsw! So I asked him again, thinking maybe he was joking. And he said again “No.” So, then I went to the waitress, because maybe he wasn’t understanding what I was saying, and I am not being racist here, but he couldn’t speak very good English. So then the waitress asked him and he said “No.” I looked at my friends and told them that I was not going to eat here, like I said earlier, I can’t have mongo without the noodles. After all of this, and me getting ready to walk out of the restaurant, the worker comes out with a new bin of noodles and a smile on his face. He was so lucky that I had so much patience and that I didn’t walk out. Not a funny joke. Don’t mess with the food. It ended up being good, but very different than back home.

Our next concert was Shiny Toy Guns, trying saying that 5 time fast. Most of the time I end up saying Tiny Shoy Guns on the first try, haha. They were pretty good. The one thing that crack me up about this band is I feel like the lead singer just doesn’t belong. His style is very different than everyone else. Or maybe it was just that show, I don’t know.

shinytoygunsphotocourtesyof_myspaceHe’s the one on the left. They all look a little different at SXSW, but he still looks different than everyone else in the pic.

After them, I headed to The Parish to see my first local band The Great Nostalgic. I decided to check them out because I met a guy that is in the band. While at the Domain the previous day we hung out in the Apple store, something I love to do. Nick decided to get one of the new shuffle’s…I want one :-)…and the guy that helped us was wearing a green sxsw wristband. I thought it was for the film part, so I asked him if he had seen any good movies. And he said no, he wished, and that he was wearing an artist wristband. He told us that his band was playing on Friday at the Parish at 9 if we wanted to check out. There were no other bands that I really wanted to see at that time, so we went and checked it out. They were actually really good. So next time I am in the Apple store I will have to track him down and tell him that I liked his band. And for all of you back home that may be thinking I have other motives…no luck…he’s not my type.

Next stop was the Ale House. This was a fun bar. It it pretty small, but it has an upstairs and downstairs. I was excited about this place because there were 3 artists to see here in a row, so we could camp out, and we got a seat upstairs. At first I thought we were at the wrong place because we were there to first see Honey Honey, but they canceled. So upset. The guy that took their place though was so good! Check out Jay Nash. I love him now! So it worked out, but I still really want to see Honey Honey. After him we got to see Erin McCarley again. I could listen to her every night. During her performance I saw this girl come up the stairs and she looked very familiar. And I thought, I think that’s Sara Bareilles. My friend Ryn then tapped on me and asked the same question. And then she walked by, and low and behold, it was Sara.

So excited  to see her! So that was our next sighting. The last artist we were there to see was Tyrone Wells. He was soooooo good! I have wanted to see him for a very long time. And I got my chance at both of our first sxsw 🙂 Throughout the night he was upstairs by us very nice and talking with people. and throughout some of his songs he definitely made eye contact and I’m not just saying that. I know he’s married, but I think he knew we were real fans cause I was singin’ along and cheerin’ loud.

After an amazing time at the Ale House I headed to La Zona on my second pedicab. Had another good driver. He actually moved to Austin to be a pedicab and he races bikes. He was really nice. The one bummer is though, by the time I got in at La Zona because of the line, I only got to hear 2 Glasvegas songs 😦  Kind of bummed. But all in all it was a great night.

And that is the last of my SXSW stories. I had an amazing time and I cannot wait until next year! I invite you all to come! So worth it! So until next time…PEACE OUT!
