I found a unique website to aid people in reading the Bible. I came across this site through Granger Community Church. Life Church is actually who it originates from and who runs it. It’s called YouVersion
YouVersion is a site that first helps people read the Bible and keep track of it. There are over 30 different reading plans that one can choose from. There are slow, fast, and everything in-between, paced plans. You simply choose one, pick your start and end dates and you are on your way. You can read the Bible that is given to you online (there are also multiple translations to choose from and many languages), you can read your own and just mark it off on the screen, or if you have a smart phone you can download a free app and read the Bible anytime, anywhere and still keep track of it. You are able to bookmark your spot if you can’t do your reading in one sitting. You can tag a verse and make contribution about it that others using YouVersion can see or you can add a link to a verse. There is also a journal section that only you can see, so if you want to make notes or write through what you are reading.
Not only is this a site to help yourself with your reading, it is also another place to connect with others. Just like FB and Twitter you can follow people and they can follow you. For example, if you notice someone who you really like what they have to say about scripture you can follow them and then be able to track all of their contributions.
Another great feature is accountability. You can sign-up to have an e-mail sent to you, to help remind you of the reading for the day. Or if you know a friend that is on the site you can make them your accountability partner and they will be able to see if you have done your readings or not.
There is a community section where church’s, small groups, or organizations can set up a group and people can join it. Within a group you can use the YouVersion Live feature. This allows the people who are in the group to interact live through their mobile device (smart phone) at an event (ex. church service, conference session). When using this application to its fullest one can follow along with the message, make notes, read related Bible verses, expand the passage, vote on a poll and see results live, ask questions anonymously, give, or request prayer. What an awesome tool!
I am going to give it a try. If you sign-up and go to Summit I have created a group for us. And if you want to follow me on there feel free. I would encourage any of my friends to try this out. It might be something cool for us to all do together even if we don’t live near each other.
Let me know what you think if you try it out.
Until next time…PEACE OUT!
PS I had my 100th comment this morning and it was from my good friend Craig Parish. For random milestones I am going to make a point to reward whoever it is. So Craig, be on the lookout in the mail. I will be sending you a gift card. Thanks for reading and commenting 🙂
