…about “Something Borrowed”

I have tried to connect myself with as many entertainment opportunities as one can, being in LA. One of those is a movie screening website that will invite you to screenings/sneak peeks of films. I had yet to get one that I could go to until today.

To be honest, I was wavering on whether I would ever see this film. I am not the biggest chick flick fan. And even though I like a lot of actors in this one, it just didn’t seem too appealing. They have done a poor job at marketing it.

So, when I got the e-mail, I jumped on it. FREE MOVIE. And it was at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, which I had never been inside.

When I got to Hollywood, I expected to see a line of people by the theater, like I have been a part of for other sneak peeks. But something felt very differently as I was making my way out of the parking garage. I was surrounded by people dressed up. I figured there must be an event going on. As I rounded the corner to go onto Hollywood Blvd. I realized these people were going to the same place I was. I put it all together. I was actually at the PREMEIRE for “Something Borrowed.” I then began to feel a little underdressed, but there was nothing I could do at this point.

Security was everywhere. My first try to get in was incorrect. I was instructed to go across the street to check-in. I couldn’t just walk up like the big wigs. I got there later than I wanted, so I was expecting to see a long line, and to possibly not even get in. I walked right up to the lady, she scanned my sheet, gave me the pass and told me I could walk across the street and go in.

The theater is beautiful. And it is actually quite large. You would never know it by looking at it from the outside. It has beautiful artwork on the ceiling and the side walls are ordained with Chinese architecture. The chairs are pretty comfortable, they rock back. I believe we were given free popcorn and soda because everyone had it, but I didn’t figure that out until I didn’t feel like leaving my seat. Note for next time.

Because the public is a seat filler for the premiere I did not have the best seat in the house, 3rd row. My neck is a little sore from the position it was in, but it could have been worse.

I got in the theater at about 6:30. It said to be there at 7, the film didn’t start until 7:30. Thank goodness for the iPhone. I played games the whole time. I kept a lookout for the stars of the film, and finally about 5 minutes before they turned down the lights I found John Kransiski standing in the aisle chatting. He is dreamy. Emily Blunt is a lucky lady. Well, she’s amazing too. So he’s a lucky lad.

I caught a glimpse of Kate Hudson. She was in a beautiful, light yellow dress that flowed off her body. Good choice for being pregnant. She looked stunning.

At this time, they dim the lights and the show begins.

What’s different about being at a premiere, is you are watching the movie with all the people who help make it. It is a very different feel. Very energetic. Throughout the beginning, as each actor is on-screen for the first time, the crowd erupts with cheers. And as the credits proceed in the beginning, people cheer with each name listed, from actor, screenwriter, author, director, producer, etc.

I enjoyed the film for the most part. All of the actors did a great job. But I will say, whenever a supporting cast member was on, they stole the scene. Especially John Krasinski. His timing and delivery was perfect.

The film has many relatable moments for most women, which is a huge plus. I don’t want to go into too much detail of the plot and ruin it for everyone, but at the end of the film I had a  “Sweet Home Alabama” feeling. One part of the ending I loved because they made it more realistic, but another part of it I’m not sure about the choice made.

I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. It’s worth at least a matinée ticket.

If you see it, come back and let me know what you think. Until next time…PEACE OUT!

Side Note: I came out of theater to see J.LO signing autographs in the middle of the mall. Her hair looked good from what I could see 🙂
