All right y’all. I literally heard about Earth Hour 10 minutes before it happened. It sounded like a grand idea to me. Take an hour out of my evening to turn off all my lights and electronics.
I lit every candle in my apartment, which I have not done since I moved. Turned off my tv, computer and phone, and thought about what I should do.
I decided to read. I didn’t read anything profound, but something that I enjoy immensely none the less, the latest Entertainment Weekly. And it actually took me the whole hour and then some to finish it. I still have part of Vanity Fair and Real Simple to finish up. Those will just have to wait.
I learned a few things participating in Earth Hour:
One, I had way too many lights on. 5 to be exact. I’m just sitting in my living room watching TV. I now have only one on.
Two, I think I like to always have music or background noise on because my mind goes crazy in the silence. At one point I began to imagine bad things happening. It was actually more than once. Ex. Someone was going to break in, someone was going to kill me, my apartment was going to catch on fire. I don’t usually get those thoughts when I have my TV, music, or even my fan on when I’m going to bed.
Three, my neighbors are loud on this Saturday evening. In my room where I spent most of the time I could hear the people next to me talking. I could hear the people above me walking. And then I heard them taking a shower; the people in my courtyard, no idea what they were doing. And let’s not forget the animals: barking dogs and fighting cats.
Earth Hour was not a bad idea. It was nice to have a little break from everything. Maybe something to do more often to put things into perspective and make things more simplistic. Let me know if you did it or ever try it 🙂
Until next time…PEACE OUT!
