New Music Tuesday is back on schedule. I got two good albums today. But because I waited till the evening, I am only going to blog about one. I asked for advice on which to post about and it was a tie. So, I chose the easy way out, the one with the least amount of tracks, haha. The one that didn’t win out is Lifehouse’s “Smoke & Mirrors.” I bought the deluxe version which has 17 songs. I’m listening to it right now as I type and really enjoying it. I feel Lifehouse can do no wrong for me.
The other album I got is Tyrone Wells “Metal & Wood.” If you have been keeping up with my blog then you know I am a fan. I have been for a while, but it wasn’t until I moved to Austin that I was able to see him live. Go figure. I lived in Cali where Tyrone is from and never saw him there. I will be seeing him again on Thursday and it will be my third time. What can I say? Tyrone loves Austin 🙂 And we love him.
Tyrone’s last album was great, but different from his previous work. It had more of a pop rock feel. With “Metal & Wood” Tyrone goes back to his roots, with a stripped down acoustic sound. While I was listening I made notes on each song, enjoy:
Running Around In My Dreams: Cute first song. If you know Tyrone’s music he has song called “Wondering Where You Are.” It is one of my all time favorite songs. I feel like “Dreams” is the follow-up to “Wondering.”
Metal And Wood: This is the message song. It challenges the listener to think about what’s going on around them.
And The Birds Sing: A fun playful song. Gives a little story at the same time.
All I’m Thinking Of: Every girl would love this song to be sung to them. Simple as that.
Happy As The Sun: Nothing special. Probably my least favorite, but that’s not saying its bad. I just don’t have anything to write about it.
Give Me One Reason (Jason Reeves): My favorite song on the album. I can feel the emotion. That is my favorite part about music. I really dig Jason Reeves voice on there too. Tyrone and him sound great together. Beautiful.
Let Go: Heartbreaking…definitely could be sung at someone’s funeral. Even though it is a song about loss, it still gives a sense of hope. It communicates that no matter where the person is, the influence they made on a life will remain forever.
Time Of Our Lives: This one goes out to all my friends entering a new chapter of their lives. And it would make a perfect graduation song. Check it out class of 2010.
Use Somebody: I saw Tyrone do this live last time he was in town. He did an amazing rendition. So happy he put it on here. I love the softness of it. It’s a good song, so when I want to belt it out I can listen to Kings of Leon and when I want to chill and listen, I can put on Tyrone.
Pull Me Through: The only song that is with a whole band. Definitely has the tone of his previous album. The song can either be about God or someone to help you get through the tough times. It’s a nice and upbeat. Solid way to end the album.
I really LOVE it! Sometimes I just love the simplicity in the music and the depth in the lyrics. I totally recommend it. If you are in Austin, come out to Momo’s on Thursday. You won’t regret it. If you live anywhere else, be sure to check Tyrone’s website to see when he is coming to your town. His concerts are always laid back and smaller venues, so after the show he usually sticks around and chats with everyone.
Until next time …PEACE OUT!
