…viewing of “Dear John”

Sickness has invaded. I have been under the weather for 2 weeks now with different ailments; which has resulted in my lack of posts. The Olympics have also been a time sucker. Luckily they are over. And hopefully the sickness is on its way out. I’ll know for sure when I go to bed and I am either able to fall asleep safe and sound, or left hacking and coughing up a lung even with a dose of NyQuil.

Going to the movies on Saturday mornings may become a weekly ritual. I think I already touched on this, but there are less people early in the morning and it’s cheaper. What better way to go to the movies? If you have not tried going solo I can’t recommend it enough.

I went into “Dear John” expecting a sappy chick flick. This presupposition was formed from a viewing of  “The Notebook.” Both stories were based from books by Nicholas Sparks. I got what I expected, but in a totally different way than I thought.

The story is based around Savannah Curtis (Amanda Seyfried) and John Tyree (Channing Tatum). Curtis is a college student at the beach on her spring break and Tyree is a soldier on leave. They of course meet and fall in love. But he has to return overseas and she has to go back to college. That’s about as much of the plot that I am going to give away because I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t seen it.

It was a solid movie. I liked it because it was not the typical. I still enjoy “The Notebook” better, but I wouldn’t be opposed to watching it again. Although, I don’t see myself buying it. I think guys might like it, but they will probably feel frustrated; much like the many guys who watch “New Moon” and can’t understand why Bella chooses Edward over Jacob.

This week I’m still hoping to get over to the theater to see at least one/both of “An Education” and “A Single Man.” It would be nice to get those in before the Oscars on Sunday.

Until next time…PEACE OUT!
