…at Verge 2010

Conferences are always a good time. Some people love them and some hate them. I am on the loving side. This past weekend I was lucky enough to go to Verge, a missional community conference. This was my first adult conference that I have gone to. Unless you count the one day conference I went to in the Bay. I didn’t get to stay the entire time and hear what I wanted to because people in my group needed to get back for football practice. I should have taken my car.

OK, back on track. The conference was great. I learned so much and it was definitely an encouraging time. For awhile I have felt somewhat spiritually dry. Coming from being heavily involved in youth ministry to last year, which was very different from earlier years. There were no taking kids to camps, or mexico mission trips. And while all the leaders say we are there for the kids, we cannot help but be spiritually fed and grow ourselves at each of those events. So, to go from having none of that and being a part of the first year of a church plant, I had a tough year spiritually. Verge helped me re-connect to what I’m really here to do. And that’s not to get people to come to church on Sundays. But to be a part of people’s lives and love them where they are; showing them how I live to then share the love of Christ and his message to those who don’t know Him.

The speakers that I took the most from were Francis Chan, Hugh Halter, Alan Hirsch, Neil Cole, Dave Gibbons, and Jeff Vanderstelt. The messages from this conference will be online sometime soon. You can click on the link that I provided earlier and check some of them out. I would highly recommend it.

My favorite part of the conference though, would be singing worship. Aaron Ivey and the band/choir from Austin Stone Community Church led. And it was awesome! It was so great to be in one room with over a 1000 people who are there for the same reason, in worship. There was one session that was particularly moving. If you want to hear about ask me 🙂

I’m out for the night, but before I go you see that I changed the theme of my blog…let me know if you like the new one.

Until next time…PEACE OUT!

  1. I am not sure if I like the theme. It looks cool put it took me awhile to find out how to comment and also I don’t like how it puts some of your stuff (vodpod and socialvibe) at the bottom. But it sounds like Verge was good! We need to catch up based on your facebook status’ today seems like you have been cooking/baking a lot?
