Today marked the 65th anniversary of the Auschwitz’ liberation. If you do not know, Auschwitz was a concentration camp during WWII. It was actually made up of 3 main camps and many other sub-camps. The Nazis murdered around 1.1 million people here. 90% of them Jews. Most were killed from gas chambers, but many also died of starvation, forced labor, lack of disease control, individual executions, and medical experiments. More people died at Auschwitz then the British and American casualties from the war combined.

It’s difficult to think there are still people out there that do not believe the Holocaust really happened. There is so much indisputable evidence and testimonies. It makes no sense.
I have a few friends that re-located to Boston. I have had the chance to visit them a few times. In the city they have a beautiful Holocaust Memorial.
The Memorial is 6 square glass towers. Each of the towers represent a different major concentration camp. Other representations: menorah candles, the six million killed, or the six years the extermination took place. The towers have six million numbers that symbolize the six million killed in the Holocaust. As you walk through the towers steam comes out of a grate underneath you. There are personal quotes on each panel as well. There was one that I reflected on and really shot right to my heart:
ILSE, A CHILDHOOD FRIEND of mine,
once found a raspberry in the camp
and carried it in her pocket all day
to present to me that night on a leaf
IMAGINE A WORLD in which
your entire possession is
one raspberry and
you gave it to your friend.
CNN did a feature video about the liberation and interviewed a few survivors. I would highly recommend checking it out.
Goodnight…and until next time…PEACE OUT!

Awesome reflection. The story you highlighted is my favorite out of all of them. Sometimes on my lunch break I would just walk over to the memorial and reflect on the stories. They are all inspiring.
