…about Jason Castro’s EP

Nothing came out today that I was really interested in. But last week I bought Jason Castro’s EP “The Love Uncompromised.” It’s four new songs plus his single that has been out “Let’s Just Fall In Love Again,” but an acoustic version.

I have liked Castro’s voice since American Idol. Although he was not my favorite of that season I still really enjoyed hearing him sing. I have tried to keep up with his new stuff and I did get the chance to see him live in November when he came to Austin to sing for a Christmas tree lighting. He did a great job with just him, a guitar, and a friend with a guitar. He played a few Christmas songs (even one with a children’s choir), played his single, and did the crowd favorite “Hallelujah.”

Since an EP is so short here’s is a little info. on each song:

Let’s Just Fall In Love Again: Very cute. This song makes me think Castro is the male version of Colbie Caillat. Definitely puts off a laid back vibe. This was a great choice for his first single. And I love acoustic versions of songs.

Love Uncompromised: This tune has an older sound to it. It kind of makes me think of Eric Clapton or Tom Petty. The chorus is very catchy and Castro puts some emotion behind his lyrics.

You Can Alway Come Home (feat. Serena Ryder): Beautiful. Their voices together sound lovely to the ear. This is my favorite song of the EP.  Maybe because it is not a total love song, it’s about loss and a yearning for what use to be.

If I Were You: This is a total Castro song. I can imagine playing it at the beach. He doesn’t have to worry about singing this song to a certain girl anymore since he recently got hitched. Congrats! (like he is ever going to read my blog, lol)

Sweet Medicine: This is my least favorite song. Even though I usually love ballads. The lyrics are too cheesy for me. Talking about how a girl is sweet medicine just doesn’t do it for me. Although the more I listen to it the more I like it. It could be one of those songs. I’m sure there’s someone out there that this is their favorite song. More power to ya.

I would recommend getting the EP if you like Castro’s sound. It is worth it. Or you can wait until the full length album is released on March 31st. The full length will have “Hallelujah” on it, if you are curious.

Until next time…PEACE OUT!

PS I will be seeing Castro again next month when he comes back to Austin to play Stubb’s with Matt Hires. If you don’t know Matt Hires yet, look him up. He’s great! I saw him open for Tyrone Wells, you can read about that concert on a previous post.

One thought on “…about Jason Castro’s EP

  1. I really love Jason’s voice and style and I agree the duet with Serena Ryder is beautiful. I think this short EP represents him well and every song has his stamp on it. I’m excited and looking forward to the full cd and his own tour in the Spring.
