Musicals have always been a part of my life. Growing up, some of my favorite’s were: Funny Girl, Paint Your Wagon, Grease, Fiddler on the Roof, Phantom of the Opera, and The Sound of Music.
Sunday night will go down as one of the best night’s in a long time. I had the privilege of going to see the musical Wicked. A little background about this. I have wanted to see this show every since it opened. The year it opened they did a number on the Thanksgiving Day Parade, which I avidly watch every year. As soon as I saw that I knew I had to see it. Here is that number:
I have not gotten the chance until now to see it. It is in Austin for 3 weeks. I decided to get tickets as close as I could, so I got row Q. This was my view:
I knew I was going to love this show, so before I even saw it, I bought a shirt:
How convenient they had a purple shirt š
I walked out of the show smiling from ear to ear. I even almost cried! That does not usually happen. I am not crier. I takes a lot to make me cry. Anyways…I loved everything about it. The set was amazing, the ensemble cast was great, and I loved how the story intertwined so much with Wizard of Oz so cleverly.
I loved Marcie Dodd, who played Elphaba. She was magnificent! When I came home I of course bought the soundtrack right away and I realized, after listening to it, I like Marcie’s voice more than Idina Menzel’s. Side note: I have been listening to the soundtrack non-stop, except for a break to listen to the new MuteMath album. Here are my top 5 numbers:
5. Popular
4. Defying Gravity
3. I’m Not That Girl
2. Wizard and I
1. For Good
With all that being said, I’m going to see if my fam wants to go see it when I am in Cali over Christmas and then it is going to be coming to Houston in June, so maybe I’ll find some peeps to go see it then too, haha. I love it! And the color scheme of my room is black and lime green, so the poster would look perfect in there…So good.
If you have seen the show, what were your thoughts and what was your favorite number?
Until next time…PEACE OUT!
PS I added some new videos to the right-check em’ out š
That’s not surprising haha, in theatre everyone pretty much always loves the cast they saw better than the original recording..something about experiencing it live. My mom and I have been debating for two years who’s production was better (she saw it in NY, I in Boston). Bottom line is every cast of Wicked is pretty top-notch! So glad you finally saw it and maybe I’ll invite myself to see it with you at Christmas!
Danielle! I’m so glad you enjoyed wicked! I love that show. I think I’ve seen it three times now. My favorite number- all of them. Such good music. I really enjoyed this entry about musicals! š
I haven’t seen it yet but is it true it has quite a controversial political undertone?
