I’m a girl…that’s quite obvious…so when it comes to cars I don’t know a whole lot. I know the basics. To get me by. My jetta has been through the ringer. With over 120,000 miles and almost 8 years old it is probably seeing its last days. It has a coolant leak that I am aware of and it burns oil like there’s no tomorrow.
For the past 3 weeks a light has been coming on, beeping and flashing at me. For the longest time I though it was the oil light (I swear I had looked it up before!). I knew I needed to check it and fill it up, but just hadn’t gotten around to it yet. I know, stupid. And I probably deserve whatever happens for my recklessness, but nothing had gone wrong until today.
I was minding my own business, on my way home from the chiropractors, Legend Chiropractic, Dr. Knight is great! Anyways, I was talking with my mom like always, updating her about how my appt. went when all of a sudden my AC went out. Warm, humid air began to shoot through and I started to freak out. Then I looked at my temp. gauge and realized it was going up! OH CRAP! Luckily I was almost home and on the phone with my mom so she could talk me through this because I would have been lost. I would have never have known to put my heater on! So, there I was in triple digit heat, with my windows down, and my heater on! I made it back to my apt. thankfully.
Later in the evening I went and picked up lots of coolant and oil. I filled the coolant up, and then I had to add 2 quarts of oil. I started my car and the light still came on. I thought it was for the oil all this time. I took out my manual and realized it was really for my coolant. I was confused though cause we had just filled it up. Oh and when I say “we,” my friend Alicia was with me. I turned the car off and we checked the coolant and realized it was bone dry again…ooops…BIG OOPS…I guess you could say my car was a little thirsty and probably hated me! So we filled it back up and then turned the car back on and went down an inch. So we had to a little more. I tried the AC and it worked…THANK YOU JESUS…I don’t know what I would have done if my AC went out and its only mid July (the Cagle’s van has no AC and I couldn’t imagine driving that thing, I only had to do it for 5 minutes). Everyone here tells me it doesn’t start to cool down till Halloween and that is still three and half months away.
So hopefully in the morning it will still be good, but I will double check all the levels before I leave for work. Glad it looks like everything is going to be OK, and my mom made sure to tell me that God was looking out for me because my engine could have cracked and that would have been my worse nightmare.
Needless to say, I have learned my lesson and I will be nice to my car. I think I will even treat it to a nice car wash inside and out since I haven’t done that in about a year.
Until next time…PEACE OUT!
