crazy night with Jenna.

OK…so Saturday night I plan to take Jenna downtown for an amazing time. Show her why I love this place so much. First on the agenda, we go to the Oasis for dinner. This is a restaurant that overlooks Lake Travis. It is huge and has the most beautiful view and is the best place to watch the sunset in town. The food and service aren’t too good, but the idea is to go there for margaritas and appetizers. And the sunset is well worth it. So that was a great time. gallery_photos07 After, I wanted to take Jenna to get a cupcake. There are two cupcake stands and one bakery in downtown that I have been chopping at the bit to try, and I just haven’t had the right timing. So, on our way to one of them, “Hey Cupcake” off South Congress, we got stuck in a ton of traffic. I was so confused. I started to notice a ton of old, cool cars. And then I noticed the plethora of people out about on South Congress, as well as people sitting in chairs. I realized that it was like a “Hot August Night” but in April. I’m guessing Austin does this in April since August is probably too miserable here to do it. It was cool and I definitely want to go next year, but by the time we got to Hey Cupcake it was going to close in 10 min and I couldn’t find any parking. 1440443992_48c9b6d230 We decided to just head down to 6th street and get some smores. We found some parking and walked down 6th street to get the experience and then headed to Halcyon on 4th. We got there, sat down in some comfy chairs when all of a sudden a girl comes up to us. Her name is Natalie and she was trying to be bold and make some new friends. She explained that she had moved to Austin about a year ago, but she had a boyfriend at the time and kind of isolated herself to only him and his friends, so when they broke up recently she found herself without any friends, and has decided to go out on the town by herself and meet people. So we sat there and chatted with her for awhile. She excused herself to go to the bathroom and while she was in there she met some other people and decided to go with them to this club. So random, but it was fun meeting someone new. She was very brave.

Throughout all of this Jenna and I tried to order smores, but were quickly let down when I found out they do not serve them anymore as of the night before because the Fire Marshall came by and said it was not up to code. SO SAD!!!!! 30 I feel like writing the city or finding out what they need to do to be able to serve them because that  is my fav. part about this place. We then decided to get the banana foster crepes. They were out…can you believe this, lol. Finally we asked for the Tiramasu and it was delicious,  but still sad about the smores.

We left there and decided to go back to 6th street. Unfortunately Pete’s was a little crazy–note to self, get there early– so after walking up and down we decided to go back to Halycon to hang out and people watch.

When we got back we found a table and chairs outside for better view. My feet were killing me because of course I decided to wear heels. I usually don’t when I go downtown, but for some reason I felt like wearing them. Bad decision on my part. I now have 3 huge blisters on my feet. Sunday afternoon I was unable to put any kind of shoe on. Luckily they are beginning to shrink…in case you wanted to know, haha. While we were chillen I decided to take out a deck of cards and just start shuffling when this man comes up and asks what I’m playing. I answer nicely that I’m not playing anything, just shuffling. He proceeds to tell me that I need to play something, like 21. So I ask him if he wants to play as a nice gesture and he says sure.

Now let me preface this. At first this man looked as though he may be homeless He seemed nice enough, and so I thought I would be nice back. He was in no way a love interest to me.

Throughout playing he began to harass me about how I was wearing heels downtown and how stupid that was-note taken. To spark conversation I asked where he lived and proceeded to talk about how he lived in this condo that overlooked Zilker park, but the city had just placed a billboard in front of his window blocking his view and he was pissed.

I told him I lived in Round Rock–and he then again began to chastise me about living in Williamson County because the cops there are so much more strict than Travis County (which I actually see as more of a perk, lol). He asked where I worked and I said I work for a church. After awhile I began to think it was getting late, so I asked what time it was…1:15-holy crap! We needed to go. We had to be at a meeting at 9am. So, we began to say goodbye, when things got even weirder. He asked me if I come here often. And I didn’t think anything of it and said I like to come here on the weekends. Then he asked me if I was a “good girl.” I don’t really know what he meant by that and he wouldn’t explain it to me. As I was getting up he asked if he could take me to a movie sometime. I avoided the question and said I had to go, when all of a sudden he grabbed my shoulders and said something about how he was not asking to sleep with me, just to go to a movie, and then he said something about crackers.

Throughout all of this there was never a time where I felt threatened, but just a time of wanting to not hurt his feelings and a little creeped out. As I walked away I said something like if I see you, I see you. And he got upset about me “turning him down” and said I should have just told him I thought he was ugly. His name was Jean and I hope I never run into him again. This goes along with what I talked to Natalie about earlier in the night…guys I would be interested in, never come up to talk to me…its always the weird ones…one day I’m hoping that will change.

The night at least ended well…we quickly hopped into a pedicab for a quick get away. We has a nice little convo with our driver…I have never had a bad pedicab. I love them all. It was his birthday, so we gave him a nice tip. We talked a little bit about Cali, more specifically Chico and DUI’s. Fun stuff!

I’m not totally sure how Jenna felt about the night. I know it wasn’t an ideal situation and a lot of my plans were kind of a bust, but it led to some good stories and a freakin’ long blog. I’m done!

Until next time…Peace Out!

  1. Holy crap Danielle. I hope when I come out we have a lot more fun because this sounded kinda sucky. I’m sure Josh will have me do a lot of more awesome stuff. Also, I agree with Sharples, you should probably buy a taser.
