For the past few weeks it is impossible to turn on the TV or radio and not hear something about U2 and their new album. They are everywhere. They are on all the TV shows, their album is the spotlight everywhere from iTunes, to Amazon, to Best Buy (which by the way is not always the best buy and I think that should be considered false advertisement). Now, I am not a huge U2 fan. I do enjoy their music and one day I would love to see them live (another side note, I did see their 3D live concert in the IMAX and that was pretty cool, but it was so hard feeling like you were at a concert and not partaking in normal concert activities like standing, dancing and singing along), but I am not the kind of fan that is chomping at the bit for their newest album to come out. So to do this review I moseyed on over to their website and listened to the whole album. Here are my thoughts:

This album has a nice mixture of songs that sounds like old school U2 combined with a a few newer, experimental sound. Some of the songs that have the classic U2 stamp on them are “Magnificent,” “I’ll Go Crazy if I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight,” and “Fez Being Born.” “Magnificent” was the one song on the album that as soon as I started listening to it I automatically could imagine Bono busting this one out on stage with all the lights going on. And “Fez” doesn’t start off old school. It actually begins a little mysterious, but then it switches up about 20 seconds in and it has the always enjoyable Bono scream.
Of course no U2 album is complete without a song that has a message and that one would have to be “Get on Your Boots.” This is the song that they opened the Grammy’s with, and to be honest, I fast-fowarded through that performance.
A different kind track that stood alone on the album was “White as Snow.” It felt like more of an old country/folk song and it told a story of brothers.
I think my favorite song on the album would have to be “Moment of Surrender.” It is a slower rock ballad, and it has a beautiful sound and the lyrics really drew me in.
The only song that I really did not like on the album was “Cedars of Lebanon.” It is one of the songs where the artist talks through the song, and I really do not enjoy that. To add on top of it, the chorus sounded kind of creepy to me.
So, take with that what you will. I would give the album a rating of 4 out of 5. Enjoy! And until next time…PEACE OUT!
